Foonz free conference calling on your cell phone

PlanetaCelular tecnologia e mobilidade

I'm lucky enough to have a job that lets me work from home occasionally, but I still need to communicate with my colleagues in the office--sometimes several of them at once. Since I long ago replaced my land line with my cell phone, I've been looking at ways to set up conference calls without having to use our company bridge. So far, Foonz, a new, free service that helps cell phone users set up conference calls, looks like a good start.

Thankfully, most people in my office use their cell phones for everything. That's good because Foonz assumes that everyone you need on the conference call will be calling in from a cell phone. Foonz allows you to configure different call groups that you can, at any time, invite to an impromptu conference call.

To start the call, you phone a number that Foonz gives you, and tell Foonz which call group to invite to the conference. Foonz then sends text messages to each group member's phone inviting them to the call. All they have to do is call in and join the conversation. If they can't make it for some reason, you can leave them a voice message instead.

If you're feeling shy, Foonz also allows you to send group voice messages to members in your call groups instead of conference calls. If you want someone on a call who doesn't have a cell phone, you'll have to provide them the call-in number some other way, because they don't get the text message that Foonz automatically sends out.

The service is free right now, although I can't imagine how it makes money. Either way, Foonz is a great way to get free conference calling if you don't have that feature on your cellular calling plan, or if you want to conference call with people who are long-distance or not on your cellular network.
