International Festival Mobilefest opens its call for papers for Seminar, Exhibition and Awards.
This year’s theme will discuss the use of mobile technology in favour of the environment.
Mobilefest - International Festival of Mobile Art and Creativity 2007, composed by international seminar, international exhibition and awarding of the best works and mobile applications, is open to receive proposals for selection and participation.
The second edition of the International Seminar and Exhibition will happen in November at Sesc Paulista - São Paulo, Brazil, and are part of various coordinated actions that Festival Mobilefest will develop from March to December 2007, with emphasis in defending the environment.
The aim of the Festival is to promote a dialogue between the most different segments of society impacted by the mobile technology, being the first International Festival of the kind. Besides that, Mobilefest aims to popularise mobile technology, contribuiting to digital inclusion and providing new ways of use and possibilities of interaction open via communication media.
Mobilefest Awards is a pioneer initiative allowing mobile phone users of all Brazilian states and all carriers to participate sending pictures, videos, texts in the category poesy and micro-stories, and reflect the constant negligence that authorities and civil society have been treating the environmental issue, but also examples of how the mobile technology can contribute to immobilize the destructive chain of the environment.
The submitted contents will be analyzed by a judging commission, and the best works will be published on the Festival Mobilefest website and vehicle partners in Brazil and abroad, and available for download on mobile carriers. This way Mobilefest intends to mobilize mobile users all over Brazil to contribute with care and protection of the environment.
Besides images that may denounce lack of respect towards the environment such as illegal falling of tree, river pollution, illegal commerce of wild birds, it will also stimulate sending of pictures that express the need to protect the environment, ecologic paradises, fauna and flora.
According to the Festival organisation, telecommunications and information technologies are great allied in the fight for preserving the environment for as joining people and ideas remotely, carbon emission is lowered due to unnecessary dislocation. Thus it contributes to quality of life, to people’s daily life in large centres, diminishing the impact of environment destruction chain.
“If 150 years ago we only had the telegraph signal to generate an S.O.S, today we use latest generation nets, mobile phones with photo and video cameras, wireless GPS linked to internet, viral and instantaneous that challenges us to find new technological solutions and collective actions in defence of the environment”, says Marcelo Godoy, one of the vent’s organisers .
According to Paulo Hartmann, “in full era of download and remix, it’s fundamental that we promoted a reflection regarding the creation and distribution of content, so Festival Mobilefest, innovates in the world offering the participant the choice of content licensing also on Creative Commons licensing, stimulating the free distribution of content among users via WAP, MMS, SMS or Bluetooth”.
The call for papers for International Seminar and International Exhibition that will happen in November at SESC Paulista should reflect upon the main theme of Mobilefest – How can mobile technology contribute to democracy, culture, art, ecology, peace, education, health and the third sector …..with emphasis on the use of mobile technologies in favour of Environment.
Mobilefest Awards submissions are open until 15th October 2007, and submission for International Exhibition and Seminar until 31st July, 2007.

About Mobilefest 2006 – On its first edition, Mobilefest discussed the social, cultural and aesthetic implications that mobiles and mobile technologies have been promoting on global scale. Through an international seminar Festival Mobilefest approached the limits of relationships between mobile technologies (such as mobiles, handhelds notebooks, etc.) and the various segments of society.
Besides the roundtables and panels, the event also included an International Exhibition and the launching of recognition awards to the best works and mobile applications, the Mobilefest Awards.
